Each year for two weeks in early July there is a Summer music festival in Lucca in Piazza Napoleone.

It usually includes some famous oldies and a variety of new artists.

In 2016 the oldies included Neil Young, Anastacia, Simply Red, Van Morrison, Lionel Ritchie, Earth, Wind and Fire and Tom Jones. There are also a bunch of Italian artists including Eduarto Bennato and Negramaro.

In 2015 it included Bob Dylan and Joe Cocker, who unfortunately died (RIP, o great one) before he could fulfil his earthly gig.

Seats for wheelies seem to be very scarce so apply early. In 2016 we were told we could not get seats to see Neil Young although there were still “normal” seats available. We planned to sit outside and listen. We rocked up just before the show (after pizza and vino) and Jill hit the box office. After a bit of convincing they sold her a ticket and put my name at the gate for free access. We were in! The gig had a large standing area and with my elevating chair I could have seen OK, but Jill likes a seat too. We found the wheelie spot, which was at the back corner. A bit more convincing (Italians love waiving rules) got us onto the “full” wheelie platform. There was actually plenty of room and spare seats of course.
We were a fair way back from the stage but we had the big screen and the sound was excellent.

So, my advice to wheelies is to try for the pre-booking stuff and otherwise turn up and talk your way in in the true Italian fashion.
