The Agrituridsmo “movement” is a concept wildly popular in Italy. Loosely related to the Slow Food phenomena, it comprises a vast number of accommodation establishments from Sicily to Trieste, Lecce to Turin. A typical agriturismo is a restored farmhouse or country-based palazzo offering apartments and usually an enhanced experience such as a working farm or a beautiful environment and/or views. The agriturismo category usually requires some attempt at environmental awareness, for example by providing locally produced organic produce such as jams and olive oil.
